Growing By Receiving

(Ephesians 4:16)  From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

We all are part of a family: The Human family. Each and everyone of us plays a part in another ones life, whether positive or negative. It is important to understand this one point though: we do not grow and learn by stressing out or thinking about it. Even moreso as a Christian. In fact the following quote puts it across aptly:

The plants and flowers grow not by their own care or anxiety or effort, but by receiving that which God has furnished to minister to their life. The child cannot, by any anxiety or power of its own, add to its stature. No more can you, by anxiety or effort of yourself, secure spiritual growth. The plant, the child, grows by receiving from its surroundings that which ministers to its life –air, sunshine, and food. What these gifts of nature are to animal and plant, such is Christ to those who trust in Him [Steps to Christ; page 68]

So what we receive into ourselves is vitally important to how we grow. Let us ensure that we are receiving that which will bring out the best in us

(Philippians 4:8)  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
