(Matthew 5:14-16) Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
As a Christian who would believe in the Word of God which we believe is the Holy Bible, it states that we are supposed to be a ‘“light of the world.” I was reminded of this and paused to contemplate “what does it mean to be a light to the world?” In talking to one of my young friends, I realized what that meant. In all the times I have had interactions with him, I didn’t know I had such a big impact on him for the positive until he started saying things such as “you have been like a tower of strength to me”, “you are a blessing to me you know”. It brought those words above from the Bible home to me. The following words also resonated in my soul when I read it:
“True character is not shaped from without, and put on; it radiates from within. If we wish to direct others in the path of righteousness, the principles of righteousness must be enshrined in our own hearts. Our profession of faith may proclaim the theory of religion, but it is our practical piety that holds forth the word of truth. The consistent life, the holy conversation, the unswerving integrity, the active, benevolent spirit, the godly example,–these are the mediums through which light is conveyed to the world.” [Ellen G. White; The Desire of Ages; pg 307]
Are you a light to others? Are you fulfilling the criteria that the Holy Bible has laid out? Just something for you to ponder on. Blessing to all.
